Two Detentions in the Aftermath of London Heathrow ‘Pepper Spray’ Incident
An additional two individuals are now in custody in connection with a theft at London's Heathrow Airport where over twenty individuals sustained injuries by what is thought to be an irritant spray, according to law enforcement.
A man, 24, was arrested in the Lambeth area for suspected robbery and assault and a 23-year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to commit robbery. Both individuals remain in custody, the force said.
These detentions follow an investigation into an assault at the multi-storey car park at Heathrow's Terminal 3 this past Sunday. Before the attack, a pair of female travelers were robbed of their suitcases upon exiting a parking garage elevator.
A toddler aged three was among the those hurt during the incident. Five people were taken to the hospital for medical care and were later discharged.
Officers arrested a 31-year-old man for suspected robbery and assault close to the location. He has since been released pending further inquiries while inquiries continue.
Authorities were alerted at about 8:10 in the morning GMT following reports of several people injured by a noxious substance thought to be an irritant spray.
The attack - an event that police said was a standalone incident and not considered an act of terror - resulted in train delays and the temporary shutdown of the main airport tunnel and the Terminal 3 car park briefly.
